ABOUT US
BILL WILSON
I grew up in upstate New York and was involved in all sports. Eventually I settled into playing football, basketball and track in high school. I was fortunate enough to be recruited nationally as a football quarterback and ended up attending the U.S. Naval Academy. It was at the Naval Academy that I first met my classmate, and future wife, Anne. During my four years in Annapolis, I was exposed to endurance sports for the first time. Running was a large part of military physical training as was swimming (it was the Naval Academy after all). I bought my first bike in 1988 and completed my first triathlon soon after. I have raced all over the United States and Europe and have enjoyed competing in all distances including multiple Ironmans. Over the next ten years years, I was able to combine triathlon training and racing with a rewarding career as a Navy Helicopter Pilot. I had the pleasure of training in such interesting places as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and other locales while serving abroad. I have also enjoyed back-country skiing and climbing for several years and was fortunate enough to complete the European Haute Route (a ski traverse from Chamonix, France to Zermatt, Switzerland that takes about 7 days from start to finish). Eventually, I left the Navy, and Anne and I spent a year living in France enjoying fantastic culture and even better triathlon training. Upon return to the States, I was hired as an Operations Manager at a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Portland, Oregon where I spent four years. It was also at this time that Anne and I began our coaching careers (2000). We enjoyed coaching so much, that after returning to Arizona in 2003, we decided to pursue coaching full time. Anne and I look forward to helping you reach your goals. It is my sincere hope that you can experience the rewards of a lifestyle filled with fitness that we have enjoyed so much.
Anne and I have enjoyed coaching athletes of all abilities. Some of the accomplishments of our more experienced athletes include:Multiple Ironman Hawaii Qualifiers
ITU Long Course and Short Course World Championship Qualifiers
ITU Duathlon Short Course World Championship Qualifiers
USAT Age Group National Championship Qualifiers
Internationally ranked Masters Swimmers
USAT Certified Coach
F. I. S. T. Certified Professional Bike Fitter
ANNE WILSON
I have enjoyed the sport of triathlon for over 21 years now since my first race in College Park, Maryland in the spring of 1988. During that time, I have competed in all distances of racing and all over the country and in Europe. It has been fun to watch the sport grow – from my first year at National Championships in Hilton Head, SC, to my first Ironman (Ironman Canada) in the mid 1990’s. I come from a competitive swimming background, doing my age group and high school swimming here in Phoenix. I then swam collegiately at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
After graduating from the Naval Academy, I was commissioned as an officer and went to flight school in Pensacola, Florida. Bill (my husband) and I received our wings on the same day. We flew helicopters for nine years in the Navy while stationed in San Diego, California, and Fallon, Nevada. I made several overseas deployments to locations including the Arabian Gulf (for Operation Southern Watch following the first Gulf War), Somalia, and many locations in Southeast Asia, to name a few. I was awarded, along with my crew, the Naval Helicopter Aircrew of the Year Award for 1997 for the rescue of 13 people during the Flood of ’97 that affected Yosemite, Reno, NV, and surrounding areas.
Following our service in the Navy, we lived and trained in France for almost a year. What a treat! We then returned and went to work in the semi-conductor industry for Intel Corporation in Portland, Oregon for the next four years.
It was while at Intel that I began triathlon coaching nine years ago. My husband and I made triathlon coaching our full time careers six years ago. In that time, we have coached hundreds of athletes to reach their goals, whether it is completing their first mini-sprint triathlon or qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Swimming is my coaching specialty and I enjoy helping someone learn their first strokes just as much as I enjoy helping former collegiate swimmers in their masters swimming goals. We look forward to sharing our experiences, knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport with you!
