MEET THE COACHES

Bill Wilson

I grew up in upstate New York and was involved in all sports. Eventually I settled into playing football, basketball and track in high school. I was fortunate enough to be recruited nationally as a football quarterback and ended up attending the U.S. Naval Academy. It was at the Naval Academy that I first met my classmate, and future wife, Anne. During my four years in Annapolis, I was exposed to endurance sports for the first time. Running was a large part of military physical training as was swimming (it was the Naval Academy after all). I bought my first bike in 1988 and the road towards triathlon began. Over the next ten years, I was able to combine triathlon training and racing with a rewarding career as a Navy Helicopter Pilot. I had the pleasure of training in such interesting places as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and other locales while serving abroad. I completed Ironman Canada twice and can say that those two days were out of this world! I have also enjoyed back-country skiing and climbing for several years and was fortunate enough to complete the European Haute Route (a ski traverse from Chamonix, France to Zermatt, Switzerland that takes about 7 days from start to finish). Eventually, I left the Navy, and Anne and I spent a year living in France enjoying fantastic culture and even better triathlon training. Upon return to the States, I was hired as an Operations Manager at a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Portland, Oregon where I spent four years. It was also at this time that Anne and I began our coaching careers. We enjoyed coaching so much, that after returning to Arizona, we decided to pursue coaching full time. Anne and I look forward to helping you reach your goals. It is my sincere hope that you can experience the rewards of a lifestyle filled with fitness that we have enjoyed so much.

Anne Wilson

Physical fitness has always been an integral part of my life since my days as an age group swimmer here in Phoenix. I continued swimming competitively through high school and into college at the U.S. Naval Academy. It was there that I was introduced to the sports of running and triathlon. From my first sprint triathlon 18 years ago in Maryland to Ironman Canada many years later, I have thoroughly enjoyed training, racing, and the wonderful lifestyle that a sporting life affords. Like Bill, I flew helicopters in the Navy for 9 years, deployed overseas several times and was able to run, swim, and bike literally all over the world. Not only did we compete in triathlons all over the U.S. during this time, we did quite a bit of back-country skiing, as well (our other passion). I began my coaching career seven years ago while working at a semiconductor manufacturing plant as an Operations Manager in Portland, Oregon. We are now entering our 4th year of full-time coaching and have worked with hundreds of athletes, both locally and from across the United States We can't wait to share our experiences, knowledge, and enthusiasm for athletics with you!

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Camelback Coaching is named after Camelback Mountain, a prominent Phoenix landmark. It reaches to 2,704 feet in elevation and supports hundreds of climbers, hikers, and sightseers everyday that climb its trails to the summit. Situated in the center of the valley, it affords a spectacular view of the entire Phoenix metropolitan area. Similarly, you can view Camelback Mountain from just about anywhere you happen to be training in the valley.
